Painters in The Nations, Nashville

The Nations is one of the parts of Nashville we paint most. Eleven of our recent projects sit within a few blocks of 51st Avenue North: on Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, Louisiana and Tennessee Avenues, and on the numbered avenues from 48th to 52nd. One of those homeowners has already hired us twice.

That's because almost every street here mixes two very different kinds of house, and each needs a different approach.

The original cottages

Small one-story cottages and bungalows on narrow lots, most with a front porch doing a lot of the work. The porch is usually where the weather hits hardest: rails, posts, ceilings and floors fail long before the siding does. That makes a porch-focused exterior painting scope one of the best-value jobs on these houses, especially when it's paired with a pressure wash of the rest of the house.

The new infill

Tall-and-skinny houses and side-by-side pairs, two and three stories high, usually with board-and-batten or lap siding, dark painted brick and stained cedar accents. There's little prep, but the walls are high and the finishes are unforgiving. New drywall and flat colors show every roller lap and every touch-up.
