Trim, Molding & Decorative Detail Work in Nashville, TN

Why Trim Work Is the Detail That Makes or Breaks a Paint Job

You can have perfectly painted walls and the room still looks unfinished if the trim is done poorly. Brush marks, uneven edges, paint on the wall where trim meets drywall — trim work is where a professional paint job separates itself from a DIY one.

Trim painting is slow, precise, brush-heavy work. It requires steady hands, patience, and the right prep. Most trim add-ons happen mid-job when a homeowner sees the walls go up and decides the baseboards need to match. We're set up for that — same crew, same project, quoted separately so you know what you're adding. Fill out the form below to get a fixed-price quote within 24 hours.

What's Included in Trim Painting

Surface Assessment and Prep
Old trim often has multiple paint layers, gap failures at the wall, dents, and dings. We fill gaps, lightly sand rough spots, and re-caulk where caulk has cracked or pulled away. A proper caulk line between trim and wall is what gives trim that clean, built-in look. This step is why trim looks cheap when it's skipped.

Masking and Protection
We mask off walls, floors, and adjacent surfaces carefully. Tight, precise masking is what produces clean lines where trim meets wall. On floors, we use drop cloths and low-tack tape to protect hardwood and carpet.

Primer Where Needed
Bare wood, repaired spots, and significant color changes get primed. On most repaints, spot priming is sufficient — we make the call based on what we see.

Two Coats of Finish
Two coats on all trim surfaces — baseboards, door frames, crown molding, window casings, whatever is in scope. We use Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams trim-specific formulations in semi-gloss or satin. Trim paint is formulated differently from wall paint — harder, more washable, holds up to contact and cleaning.

Trim Surfaces We Paint

Baseboards — The most common trim request. We pull the caulk line between baseboard and wall, fill gaps, sand, and apply two coats. A freshly painted baseboard makes every room look cleaner and more finished.

Crown Molding — Sits at the wall-ceiling junction and catches light. Any inconsistency in application shows. We take our time on crown. Good crown work adds visual height to a room.

Interior Doors — Panels, edges, frames. Each section requires specific technique to avoid runs and brush marks. Panel doors take longer than flush doors. We assess and quote accordingly.

Door Frames and Casings — Highly visible, often overlooked. Treated with the same care as the doors themselves.

Window Casings and Sills — Exposed to more light and condensation. We use appropriate formulations and ensure sills are properly sealed against moisture.

Stair Railings and Balusters — Time-intensive. Balusters are small and numerous. Handrails take contact and wear — we use a durable finish that holds up.

Fireplace Mantels — Often the focal point of a room and more complex in profile than standard trim. We take care in recesses and details without overloading paint into corners.

Wainscoting and Paneling — Large-format trim work. We assess whether spray or brush is more appropriate based on the profile and location.

Trim-Only Work — No Wall Repaint Required

If your walls are in good shape but the trim has yellowed, chipped, or just needs a refresh, trim-only work is a legitimate scope. We'll tell you honestly if the contrast between fresh trim and existing walls will be noticeable and let you decide how to proceed. Most whole-home baseboard and door frame repaints run $800–$2,000 depending on scope. Crown molding, railings, and mantels are quoted separately based on complexity.

Why Those Guys Painting Co.

Trim work is where attention to detail either shows or doesn't. We don't rush it. Clean caulk lines, tight tape, proper dry time between coats — that's the difference between trim that looks painted and trim that looks built-in.
